15th of Chinese New Year 2010

Today is the last day of Chinese New Year & it is the Chinese Valentine day.
Hehehe.....I still have some left over "cookies" - we name it Kuih Kapit or love letter. It is crispy, sweet & aromatic. Made of coconut milk (give it the unique flavour) ,flour, egg & sugar. We used to make it when I am a teenager together with my grandma, my aunties & sisters. It is a very tedious process. We sat in front of the stove for hours, make it pcs by pcs from morning until evening. It is very manual & labor intensive. But, these crispy biscuit is way too addictive. My kid love this just like me.

As usual, I have made a very garlicky pizza for lunch on the cozy Sunday lunch using our herbs.

I have also bake a simple sausage pizza for 3 of us. One pizza is not enough to feed 2 adults & 1 kid. ......

Lau Heong Restaurant

Restoran Makanan Laut Zhen Liew Siang

No.30, Jalan 14/48A,
Sentul Raya, Off Jalan Sentul,
51000 KL.
Tel: 03-40413781

Today, I would like to recommend my favorite restaurant. It is in Sentul, KL. I used to work in Segambut (KL) , my colleagues will always bring us to this particular restaurant whenever there are guests coming to visit the factory. So far, I am very satisfy with their price & quality of food.
Consistency is very important for a restaurant to strive.

Here are some of their famous dishes:
Banana Leaf Buttered Prawns
Curry Stingray

German pork knuckles
Nam Yue Chicken Wing

Yum Yum........Pls note that their dinner is very crowded. It is better to go during lunch time.
Bon Appetite~

Pat's Kids Cooking Party

Somewhat during 2010 Chinese New Year, a friend asked if we would arrange a cooking class for her kid cum a mini children party, like bake your own party. Lest the chicken nugget, (and Vitagen of course), the salad, baked carrot and pizza is the result of the baking lesson.

Actually, I am encouraging my friend to try out some of the tested recipes posted in this blog.

The super easy lemon dressing (refer below link):

Well, the salad is lovely, but I guess the kids only finish the salad as their last choice. I have noticed that kids nowadays don't really like to eat vegetables. They would prefer meat over vegetables. Therefore, we should encourage them to eat a balance diet with more vegetables.

Here is the classic Hawaian Chicken pizza, not the usual cut, but when serving food to children, one need to remember the food portion that a children can take. The pizza running out fast. The children finish the 1st pizza before the 2nd pizza is ready. Btw, we don't really need a pizza cutter. A wooden cutting board & a sharp knife is the best method to cut the pizza-> fast!

Here is something for the parents, something pretty cocktail like, smoked salmon on pizza. I love this. Not so fatty =P. Besides, it looks pretty too.
I like this plate. Pat got some really beautiful plates & tools. I love the cupboards- she can stuff lots of pots, pans, plates, wine, liquor etc......It is so spacious. She has an island in her dry kitchen. How I wish I could have one. Forget about it. I need to stay in a semi-D in order to have that lovely kitchen. But, I prefer to stay in a condo when it is cleaning time. Can I have both? ;P
Here is another for the adults, garlic bread on a pizza dough, while the children don't mind the calories of cheese, we parents do, hence, garlic spread (garlic, olive oil and some fresh garden herbs that is freshly grown from our condo balcony) on pizza dough.
Knead, knead and knead, children love it,..... for the first 5 (no, it was the first 3) minutes. Hahah.......Yeah....we are tired but we have fun too.

It is Chinese New Year - Tiger year 2010. I would like to wish this blog reader Happy Chinese New Year & 恭喜发财!It has been busy for me as usual. However, I would like to share with you some awesome & yet simple recipes that you can cook for Chinese New Year.

Squid is actually very easy to cook. It can be done in just a few minutes. Just treat it like you are cooking prawns. Fresh squid taste the best! Today I am going to share with you TWO recipes.

Recipes 1: Stir fry Thai style squid

Ingrediants:

Handful of Squid - fresh & cleaned, cut into small pcs
1 tbsp Tomyam paste- stored bought, use it when you do not have time to make your own
Fresh Chili - remove the seed if it is too spicy
1pc Tomato
1pc red onion
Salt & cooking oil
1/4 cup of water
Lots of coriander
1pc Lime

Method:
1) Heat the cooking oil in a wok, then add in the tomyam paste, stir fry the squid, add in the water to cook through the squid.
2) Add the tomato, red onion & chili & salt. Cooking for 1 min.
3) Off the heat, stir in the coriander & juice the lime over the dish.

Recipes 2: Korean style squid

This dish can be served cool.

Ingrediants:
Squid (clean & seasoned with salt)
Kimchi (white cabbage)
Spring onion

Method:
1a) Healthier version- blanch the squid in hot water to cook it through. Just be careful not to overcook the squid. Overcooked squid is rubbery.
1b) Another options: To pan fry the squid in a non stick pan with little oil. Then, sliced it up.
2) Cut the kimchi & spring onion.
3) Mix it & Enjoy!
